280 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton Bed Linen
FAQs
Sateen bed linen is often thought of as the most luxurious bedding one can buy however in reality it comes down to personal preference. For those that look for that silky smooth feel of their bedding then sateen is really it! The sateen material has a special weave with one thread over, four threads under giving it a slight sheen and softness other materials such as percale do not have.
The short answer is, yes! Due to way the the material is weaved all sateen should have a slight sheen. In lower quality bed linen this sheen can fade if part of it is due to chemical processes which wash away with time instead of the actual fibres of the material.
There´s a lot of false information surrounding thread count, price of bed linen and sateen. We do not believe you have to spend a fortune for quality bed linen that is 1000 thread count, in fact many 300 thread count sateens will feel much softer and silkier than lower quality higher thread count sateens.
A general rule of thumb is the higher the thread count the thicker the material will be. To achieve a finer material of a higher thread count the fibre of the cotton needs to be extremely long and fine. As this cotton is the most sort after for sateen bedding, bed linen made from this type of cotton will always have a higher price tag.

Egyptian cotton bed linen is a real plus when you buy "true" Egyptian cotton as it has superior softness due to its long staple fibres. Egyptian cotton bed linen feels incredibly smooth against the skin, has a lustrous sheen and a luxurious appearance most people desire in their bedroom. It helps your skin breath at night keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer.
Likewise due to this longer more durable fibre your bed linen will remain looking new and fresh for longer avoiding pesky pilling and discolouration. The problem arises as it's hard to distinguish real Egyptian cotton bed linen products from others which are claiming to be so however are made from an inferior quality. Most of the time one doesn´t realise until you´ve got them home and onto your bed. In some instances it takes just 2 to 3 washes for the pilling to become apparent and for these nasty sheets to start deteriorating.
Common sense generally comes into play here, so if the price tag sounds too good to be true then it probably isn´t the real deal! Sometimes paying a little more now saves you a lot in the long run.
